A Deserted New World

Ndeye Bassel and Zachary Engelman

Background

Life has run its course on the Hyperloop Artifice. With changes from shifting economies to natural disasters, a new world has been created within its site. In the years before, the structure was the most powerful it had ever been. It was the center for all research conducted on the hyperloop. With many relying on it as a source of knowledge and power, it would be very surprising to know what was to come. Many would assume that the structure would continue to grow as the years went on, and gain even more power. It’s the year 3050, and the truth is that it is none other than a deserted structure. Climate change is here and it is not a hoax; it is not invisible, and it is not far off into the future. While the COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped all of our lives and imposed tremendous hardships, it has also served as a big wake up call. We have completely reimagined the way the world could work, all for the sake of our health. But while we are fighting this never before seen battle, the one of climate change is still relevant. In one region, climate change may look like a flood, or it may look like a wildfire sweeping through a town. With climate change causing the loss of many cities, the Hyperloop Artifice finds itself underwater. It now serves as a new environment for a different species.

New World

As the water level keeps rising, the Hyperloop Artifice becomes more and more submerged. The once powerful technologically advanced campus is now broken up and resting underwater. Surprisingly, it is still a popular attraction as scientists use its images to show, what was at one time, the most powerful hyperloop center in the world. The hyperloop itself is now a very popular transportation system, as it is now used all over the world. The high speed travelling trains are always praised because of their efficiency as well as their technological aspects. For the duration of the Hyperloop Artifice’s life, scientists continued to work on the expansion of technology, as well as the creation of additional hyperloop routes.

The Beginning or The End

Although the very first Hyperloop Artifice is now sunken, it has certainly helped with developing the world further with its powerful technology. It has led to the creations of many more campuses, many more ways of transportation, and many more businesses surrounding those campuses. It is very despairing to know that the human population has let their planet go down the path it did. By now, climate change has caused the devastating loss of many cities; and it continues to destroy and alter the way the population lives. The positive side is that, like the COVID-19 pandemic, people have acclimated to the changes; because climate change is not going anywhere anytime soon. One of the main goals for the new hyperloop headquarters is to design an even more environmentally friendly system, to help slow down and eventually stop global warming. As for the Hyperloop Artifice, curious sea creatures have made it their new home.
