Hyperloop Artifice

Ndeye Bassel & Zachary Engelman

Hyperloop Artifice is centered around a primary bridge that snakes in and out through the campus. It connects the three volumes that make up the hyperloop campus, and is an extension of the gallery. It was designed to create a tour throughout the campus, that also allows fluent circulation for workers and travelers.

The bridge stands 30 feet above the ground and overlooks the: labs, outdoor space, and offices. While the bridges are a mechanical element, they are also transparent, allowing for people to see the surrounding desert and the movement of work environments that lie below them.

The project is divided into three separate masses, each allowing the viewer to have a unique experience. Within the welcome center, the bridges connect in areas of specific programs, meaning it’s more of a personal experience being directly involved with the theater, then with the museum and restaurant.

The connection made between the bridge and the labs and offices is something completely different. It’s an entirely separate program that lies above those spaces, allowing viewers to overlook the busy work environment below. The connection between the bridge and the training lab and classrooms however is one of efficiency, allowing the users to board and exit the hyperloop or to gain access to classrooms with ease.

The Campus plays on the dichotomy between interior and exterior. The interior remains a mystery from an outside eye, and builds on the fear of the unknown. However, once inside, visitors are led to a viewing platform above the laboratories that features a panoramic view of the site. From this platform, users can view and revel in the greatness of technology.

The symbolization of power is also present in the project as it is a portrayal of the efforts of modern and future technology. The drive to think of what happens in the future is closely followed by the drive to create those ideas. Hyperloop Artifice's goal is to push technology further than we can imagine it. Knowing how fast technology is evolving, it is safe to assume that it will be continuously open and functioning in the far future, possibly by robots. For now, it is serving as a way to experiment with ideas that push the “limits” known to mankind; however it will also serve as the exchange platform between generations of technology.
